Boyd Binninger began his career in commercial real estate in 1997. Prior to joining the ASU Team, Mr. Binninger was involved in the finance department of the Farm Credit System. He also served as CEO and general manager of BW Implement Company, a manufacturer of farming implements. With experience in both of these fields, it was a natural progression towards a career in commercial real estate. He started as an industrial specialist for ASU & Associates and is now the senior vice president of the industrial services group. During the past 20+ years, Mr. Binninger has been involved in transactions as small as incubator spaces for start-up companies to the sale of large manufacturing facilities. He has also participated in investment property transactions for selected clients. He has represented tenants, landlords, buyers and sellers.

Mark Smith began his corporate real estate career in 1978 as an industrial property specialist in San Diego, after graduating from San Diego State University. In 1980, Mr. Smith joined Charles Tingey Associates, where he obtained top performer status and became senior vice president of office properties. In 1987, he formed ASU & Associates, along with co-founders Tom Anchordoquy and Scott Underhill. ASU & Associates affiliated with Grubb & Ellis Company in 1997, becoming Newmark Grubb ASU & Associates in 2013 and rebranding as ASU Commercial in 2018.
Mr. Smith’s reputation, experience and integrity have earned him numerous exclusive assignments with institutional, regional and local over his 40+-year career, including office, land and investment transactions throughout the Southern San Joaquin Valley. He has also achieved the prestigious SIOR professional designation, as confirmed by the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors and National Association of Realtors, recognizing him as one of the nation’s elite brokers.

PHIL A. FONTES

Mr. Fontes is a commercial real estate veteran with over 35 years of retail leasing and tenant representation experience. He joined ASU in 2012 as a licensed real estate agent in the Retail Properties Division, and serves as a senior vice president, specializing in retail tenant representation, contract negotiations, and investment sales.
Previously Mr. Fontes was First Vice President and a principal partner at CB Bakersfield Partners, an affiliate of CBRE from 2000 to 2012. He began his career in 1985 with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate where he consistently earned top producing honors.
With extensive knowledge in tenant representation, investment sales, construction, and development, Mr. Fontes brings a unique approach to commercial real estate. His ability to individualize and customize solutions and to each clients’ needs has earned him his clients’ trust and long-term affiliation. Mr. Fontes received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Bakersfield.
Mr. Fontes represents clients throughout central California markets from Bakersfield to Lodi; Antelope Valley cities of Lancaster and Palmdale; and the central coast areas of Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and San Luis Obispo.
